FIC President at TV N1

In the interview for the TV N1 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of FIC, FIC President Yana Mikhailova promoted FIC priorities and the activities of the WB Task Force.

In a show called ‘’Dan uzivo’’ she outlined three general priorities for foreign investors: continuation of the structural reforms including privatization of the state owned enterprises, consistent law implementation and rule of law, as well as the harmonization of laws with the EU. FIC President said that the Government shows clear willingness for pursuing reforms. ‘’And when there’s a will, there is a way. I will give you good example illustrating this willingness: in January this year, together with the Government, FIC created the Task Force, joint working group, with the goal to implement the WB recommendations“, Yana Mikhailova said. She explained that the WB tackles key priorities for the investors. Asked about the impact of the reforms of the labour regulations on the position of the employees, FIC President outlined that the main FIC proposal is to simplify rules and to regulate some concepts that are not tackled by legislation, to the benefit of both employers and the employees. Topic of the subsidies given to the investors was also tackled, and on this point FIC President said that they are not decisive element in the investors’ decision to come to Serbia. A move to invest is a part of the strategic orientation, she said, citing as advantages of Serbia geographical position, free trade agreements including with the EU, countries in the region - CEFTA and with Russia, as well as decent infrastructure. ’’Subsidies provide short term benefit to the investors. What counts in their decision to invest is indeed to know how the country will function in the long term, what is its strategic orientation, what is its environment, what it the perspective for their operation in the country, with the subsidies being only one of the factors, in the initial phase“, she said. FIC was promoted as the association with more than 130 members employing more than 94,000 people and having invested more than 28.7 billion Euros in Serbia.
