On February 18, together with AmCham and NALED, FIC provided to the Economy Ministry the comments related to the amendments on the Company Law which is planned for September 2021 aiming to improve the position of Serbia on the Doing Business List. The three associations outlined that the Company Law, as a systemic Law, should not be changed too often, and that when it is done the process should be transparent and include public discussion and comprehensive consultations with the business representatives. The letter draws attention that the proposed amendments, dating back to the 2020, change the existing balance of rights between the large and minor capital owners. It is suggested that changes aimed to enable the progress at the Doing Business List should not hamper the functioning of the economy, especially in the contest of the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic difficulties it brings. Additional argument provided was that the Doing Business methodology changed in a way that it now includes the minor shareholders’ positions only for the companies listed at the market. Comments on the 6 articles were provided. Letter can be accessed here.
