FIC Insight: Shaping the Future of e-Sick Leave-Employer

As part of the public consultation process on the Draft Law on e-Sick Leave – Employer, on September 24 the Foreign Investors Council (FIC) hosted the FIC Insight event at the European House, gathering key stakeholders to discuss the digitalization of sick leave and its implications for the business community.

The central theme of the event was the transition toward a more efficient, transparent, and equitable system through the implementation of electronic sick leave. FIC Insight served as a platform for open dialogue between representatives of the private sector and Government institutions, fostering collaboration and mutual understanding in shaping the future of this important reform.

Participants explored the challenges and benefits of e-sick leave, with a particular focus on its impact on employers, employees, and HR practices. The discussion highlighted the need for digital solutions that are developed in close cooperation with the private sector, taking into account operational realities and business needs.

The event was moderated by Milena Jakšić Papac, President of the FIC HR Committee and Partner at Karanović & Partners, with support from Vice President Đorđe Milovanović of Yettel Srbija.

FIC Serbia extends its sincere appreciation to the Government representatives who contributed to the discussion and reaffirmed their support for inclusive policy development. Special thanks go to Mihailo Jovanović, Biljana Marić, and Milan Josimov from the Office for Information Technologies and e-Government; Dragana Šutović-Ilić and Jelena Bojović; Nikola Radoman from the Ministry of Health; and Verica Cvetković and Vesna Latinović from the Republic Fund of Health Insurance.

Panelists agreed that e-sick leave represents a vital step in modernizing Serbia’s healthcare system. However, its successful implementation hinges on sustained cooperation between public and private sectors, with transparency, accessibility, and system flexibility being key to its effectiveness.

FIC Serbia also expresses gratitude to the Delegation of European Union to the Republic of Serbia for their long-standing partnership and to the European House for their warm hospitality and professionalism throughout the event.

The event was supported by FIC Regulatory Officer Tamara Kapor.
