Exclusive presentation “Digital Identity Registry via Blockchain” was organised for FIC members on July 22.
FIC members used the opportunity to hear about the technology and its potentials from the President of the Serbian Blockchain Initiative Ivan Bjelajac, who is also the co-founder and CEO of blockchain research and development studio MVP Workshop, and Board Member of Serbian Venture Network. This was an event of great interest, especially having in mind the importance of digitalisation in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic which changed the way of lives and operations for individuals, businesses and public entities. As outlined by the FIC Regulatory Officer Jelena Lazarevic, the digital identity was recognized as an important topic, which could facilitate operations in particular in the financial services sector. Ivan Bjelajac presented the proven potential of blockchain technology to preserve the security of sharing digital cash and data and guarantee the scarcity of the exchanged values and data. The technology is now at that level where it is possible to build software on it, he said. Ivan Bjelajac provided information on the current blockchain platform of choice Ethereum and its limitations, as well as on Polygon, a protocol and a framework for building and connecting the Ethereum compatible blockchain networks. He provided concrete examples of projects developed such as: solution for fundraising and distributing support in digital cash for humanitarian purposes in Syria for the AIDONIC organisation; a decentralized finance platform for lending against crypto assets for a peer to peer lending network Celsius Network; a decentralized platform for reading, writing, publishing, selling and buying e-books “Scriptarnica”. Presentation was attended by around 40 members who had the opportunity to engage in discussion and were invited to seek assistance in case they would need the implementation of the blockchain technology in their businesses.
