EU Integration: The Cornerstone of Serbia’s Sustainable Growth
Belgrade, 18th, December 2025 – The Foreign Investors Council (FIC) held the regular annual session of the Assembly, adopting the Annual and Financial Report for 2025, and discussing key priorities for the upcoming period. The “Committee of the Year Award” was presented to the FIC Anti-Illicit Trade & Food Committee as the most active Committee in 2025.

Further intensification of Serbia’s accession negotiations with the European Union remains a strategic priority of the Foreign Investors Council (FIC), as it represents a key mechanism for the continued alignment of the domestic regulatory framework with EU standards and for reducing geopolitical uncertainty that affects investments and foreign trade flows. In the period ahead, activities will focus on improving the implementation of existing laws and by-laws, as well as on the adoption of new regulations that will positively contribute to strengthening the resilience of the Serbian economy and enhancing the efficiency of supply chains, with the aim of achieving even deeper integration of Serbia’s economy into the EU Single Market. Through their recommendations, the members of the Foreign Investors Council seek precisely to encourage efforts to improve the business and investment climate while fostering future growth, thereby ensuring sustainable development with full respect for EU environmental standards.

At the same time, priorities include systematic investment in the development of human capital through the enhancement of knowledge and skills, the creation of a supportive environment for talent management, accelerated digitalization across all segments of society and the economy, as well as a stronger shift toward the green transformation of Serbian society and the economy. This includes, among other things, improvements in waste management, the application of ESG standards, the development of regenerative agriculture, strengthening energy security, and diversifying energy sources.

In his opening remarks, the President of the Council, Dr. Ronald Seeliger, CEO of the Hemofarm Group, emphasized that in 2025, the FIC continued to strengthen its role as a reliable partner to the Government and a strong advocate for reforms. He noted that the White Book once again delivered clear, actionable recommendations, while the fact that 74% remain unaddressed shows how much work still lies ahead. He stressed that Serbia must accelerate reforms, reinforce the rule of law, and intensify alignment with EU standards, while the FIC will continue to lead this dialogue.

As every year, the FIC General Assembly is held with the support of our esteemed members. FIC members thank this year’s host, Raiffeisen banka, for its hospitality, support, and trust.
