In an interview for Svet osiguranja magazine published on Oct 31, Legal Committee Vice President Jelena Vukic-Suljagic welcomed the results of FIC initiatives regarding the laws on alternative investment funds and open investment funds with public offering.
“We are glad to see that some of the key FIC proposals were adopted – for example the possibility to buy and sell investment units in foreign currency”, she said. The law proposals, adopted by the Government, contribute to the harmonization with the EU rules in the domain of investment funds, and also regulate various types of investments including risky ones, such as venture capital, hedge, real-estate and private equity. FIC participated both in working groups and in public discussion on these laws, Legal Committee VP said, drawing attention to the importance of working groups in the process of drafting of the law in order to enable enough time for the involvement of interested parties. While those new rules represent the improvement in harmonization with the modern European rules, their effects will also depend on rules in other areas such as taxes and forex, she concluded.
