Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Barry Callebaut Factory in Novi Sad

• Aleksander Vučić, President of Serbia, launches construction of Barry Callebaut’s first chocolate factory in Southeastern Europe • Factory to have an annual production capacity of over 50,000 tonnes of chocolate, representing an investment of EUR 50 million • The Novi Sad factory is expected to be operational by 2021

Novi Sad/Serbia, March 5, 2020 Barry Callebaut, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, started today the construction of its new chocolate factory in Novi Sad, Serbia. The groundbreaking ceremony was officially led by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, together with the President of the Provincial Government, Igor Mirović, the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milos Vucević, as well as the Group’s CEO, Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Regional, Vice-President EEMEA, Rogier van Sligter, and General Manager Southeastern Europe, Stojan Kemera.

In April 2019, the Barry Callebaut Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Serbian Government and the City of Novi Sad to construct its first chocolate factory in Southeastern Europe. The state-of-the-art facility will be located in Novi Sad, Serbia, located around 90 km northwest of the country’s capital, Belgrade, and is planned to have an annual production capacity of over 50,000 tonnes. Total investment volume over a period of five years is projected to amount to EUR 50 million (CHF 56.7 million). The factory is expected to be operational by 2021.

Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO of the Barry Callebaut Group, says, “In line with our ‘smart growth’ strategy, the new factory in Novi Sad will expand our footprint in the region and supply current as well as new customers with a wide range of chocolate, compound and filling products. The factory will serve as a regional hub from which Barry Callebaut can address the rapidly growing chocolate markets of Southeastern Europe.”
