Selected works of Vojvodina Painters Exhibited for the First Time
The exhibition of paintings by Milan Konjović, Mića Popović, Nikola Graovac, Milan Kerac, Sava Stojkov and other famous painters from Vojvodina region, a part of the rich art collection of Vojvodjanska banka, was opened tonight at the Gallery of Matica srpska in Novi Sad.
40 extremely valuable works of art from the second half of the 20th century, which have become a part of Vojvodjanska banka’s collection by planned purchase and continuous realization of art colonies, were presented to the public for the first time at the exhibition entitled "Responsibly in Culture".
In the following 10 days the exhibition will be open and free for all visitors, after which the Gallery will be closed due to reconstruction works of the façade. Complete reconstruction of the entrance to the Gallery is being financed from the cooperation project between the Gallery of Matica srpska and Vojvodjanska banka.
The opening ceremony was attended by a large number of art lovers, among them ballerina and choreographer Aja Jung, kayaker Marko Novaković, director and member of provincial parliament Jelena Balašević, director of company CPG Robert Čoban, Executive Director of SAM Jelena Bulatović and many others.
“Proclamation of Novi Sad for the European Capital of Culture 2021 is a wave which should be used to do great and important things in the field of culture, among which is the reconstruction and renovation of all cultural institutions", said the President of the Executive Board of Vojvodjanska banka, Mr. Marinos Vathis and emphasized that reconstruction of the Gallery of Matica srpska was a contribution of Vojvodjanska banka to that aim.
“Vojvodjanska banka is sincere in its intention to help not just the Serbian museum scene, but also national culture, and I am very honored for this cooperation with the Gallery of Matica srpska. We are grateful to the Gallery’s experts who work very professionally so that the large and important collection of Serbian fine arts, possessed by Vojvodjanska banka, are processed and presented to the public. We are now presenting the first 40 paintings, and over the next two years the other artworks from the collection. I will be very proud when we present all paintings to the public in the building of Matica srpska with renovated entrance and elevator for persons with disabilities", stated Mr. Vathis.
According to Tijana Palkovljević Bugarski, the Director of the Gallery of Matica srpska this exhibition is the first result of cooperation between the Gallery and Vojvodjanska banka, commenced in June this year. It is based on the idea that experts of this institution record, process and catalogue the rich collection of works of art that are located under the roof of the Bank. She pointed out that this was only the beginning, followed by conservation and shipping works for the purpose of exhibition and publishing the collection.
"I would like to express my gratitude to Vojvodjanska banka and Mr. Vathis, because they had recognised before the European Commission that Novi Sad was the European Capital of Culture, and selected our Gallery for the partner on the important work of protecting the cultural heritage owned by the Bank. I would also like to thank for the trust they have placed in us by giving their art collection for display in the space of our Gallery. With this exhibition we have made it available to all citizens, just as by investing the funds realized through this cooperation in the reconstruction of the entrance and installation of lift, we will make the space of the Gallery available to everyone", said the Director of the Gallery, and added that Vojvodjanska banka and the Gallery of Matica srpska had jointly accomplished two important European goals - transparency and accessibility of cultural heritage for everyone, and showed a high level of responsibility in culture of both institutions.
Vojvodjanska banka is very committed to socially responsible activities. Support to culture under the slogan "Responsibly in Culture" stemmed from the fact that the Bank has in its ownership more than 600 works of fine art. It is a voluminous collection - a collection of works of art, mostly by local authors of the second half of the twentieth century, who have so far been on the walls of the business premises of the Bank, and thanks to cooperation with the Gallery of Matica srpska they will be listed, processed and catalogued in the next two years. After that, the paintings will be available to the general public. Vojvodjanska banka and the Gallery of Matica srpska signed the Agreement on business cooperation in the end of June this year, and the funds in the amount of 5,200,000 dinars, realized by this Agreement, will be directed by the Gallery to the second phase of facade reconstruction, which pertains to the complete reconstruction of the entrance and installation of external elevator for persons with disabilities.
