Meeting on EU Chapter 27

On December 30, FIC had opportunity to learn firsthand on the main plans and challenges for preparations for the EU negotiations in the Chapter 27 dedicated to the environment.

Ivan Karic, Chairman of the Chapter 27 negotiating group and State Secretary in the Environment Ministry, said that the Negotiating Position for the Chapter 27 is planned to be submitted by the end of 2019. He reminded that the Chapter 27 is the most complex and most costly, requiring transposition and implementation of more than 200 regulations as well as significant investments, especially in the sectors of waste waters and communal waste. He shared info that, when it comes to the Industrial Emissions Directive, the possible transition periods due to high costs should be negotiated for each company separately. It was a joint meeting with other business associations including among others AmCham, Naled, German Chamber of Commerce, but also sectoral associations and European Movement in Serbia.
