FIC Views on Education Promoted
At the conference on dual education on May 17th HR Committee President Dejan Jecmenica conveyed that Serbian employees have a solid expert background but that Serbia has limited quality workforce and lack of the human resources for the managerial positions of strategic importance.
At the event organized by Newsweek magazine, he promoted FIC recommendations to tackle these issues, starting with prevention of brain drain and modernization of the educational system. As he said, the key issue is attraction, motivation and retention of the greatest talents as well as their education in field of managing the changes within companies. This especially relates to companies that faced lay-offs and which need to have leaders to manage the organization as he put it in ‘’hard times’’. Dejan Jecmenica also outlined that the time has passed when education ended at the faculty. “When we talk about education, we often think about formal education, but there are other segments that need to be developed”, he said, adding that the need of continuous education should be promoted. “The education and science are the biggest national priorities of all countries that make plans for the future. The development of society and the state depends on the degree of development of education. It is good to go in that direction’’, concluded FIC HR Committee President.
The conference was opened by the Ambassador of Germany Axel Dietmann, while other participants included head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport, Executive Director of the German-Serbian Business Association Martin Knapp, President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Cadez, as well as representatives of GIZ, diplomatic corps and businesses. HR Committee President did not tackle the topic of dual education in Serbia as it was not yet discussed within the HR Committee.
