Mikhailova for E-Kapija

In the interview for economic news portal E-Kapija on September 19, FIC President Yana Mikhailova said that the business climate in Serbia improved significantly in the past 15 years since FIC was founded, but that that further improvements are needed.

"We in FIC always look to the future, and our biggest expectations are the increase of the dynamics of the important structural reforms, and in particular privatization and corporatization of public enterprises, and consistent and efficient implementation of the laws", she said. As ways to achieve those goals, she cited the establishment of the lacking institutions, introduction of the clear procedures and guidelines, cutting the unneeded bureaucratic procedures, training the public servants, and in particular employees of the bodies in charge of market surveillance - Tax administration and inspection services, as well as harmonization with the EU. When it comes to the EU integrations, FIC President said that FIC supports the process because it requires reforms leading to the increased transparency and predictability of the business environment, as well as establishment of the functional market economy. Asked about the expectations from the Task Force with the Government for the implementation of the WB recommendations, she said that the analysis for the WB 2017 is still ongoing, but stressed out that the very important fact is that the Government is working together with the investors on the improvement of the business climate. FIC President added that the investors are always impatient to see the results of the reforms as it means better conditions for their operations, but that some sensitive issues require some time. "We welcome all that is needed in this process of public consultations to come to the best solutions for all the parties involved", she said. Going more concretely into the numbers, she said that the TF has the ambitious goal of the improvement of the 50%, which is more than the average 35-45% noted in the previous year. She added that any success exceeding last years' 35% should be viewed as improvement, and expressed hope that the TF work will give results not only this year, but also the next one. FIC strength - more than 130 members and significant share in the economy - was also promoted in the text. The interview in Serbian can be accessed here below.
