Continued Cooperation with EU
On January 31, FIC discussed with the EU Delegation taxes and market surveillance as part of the agreed cooperation aiming to leverage EU influence for resolving significant issues in the business climate.
The meeting was held ahead of the meeting of the EU-Serbia sub-committee on these issues, which is a part of the formal cooperation during the EU integration process. According to the unofficial info from the EU Delegation, at the meeting of the Sub-committee the Health Ministry announced it would reassess the Draft Sanitary Law and sent it to EU Commission for review. Serbian authorities also said that the inspections were executing risk-based assessment, and the EU conveyed that the evidence of that practice will be requested from the authorities at the meeting of the Sub-committee on agriculture. Previously, trade issues on trade, customs and inspection procedures were tackled at the meeting with the European Commission on December 15 and in January the active communication was maintained with the EC and EU Delegation in Serbia regarding participation of the DG TAXUD experts at the conference dedicated to taxes and active consultations regarding the market surveillance, especially in food safety.
